Duty over Desire

Is there that something in life? That something that you just can't shake no matter how many other things you've created to occupy your mind and time? Some say that's your true passion and others will say that it's your duty. I've mentioned many times before that part of my daily routine throughout my journey battling cancer and going through 3 transplants was to read stories about those who overcame extreme adversity as well as those who not only survived but thrived while battling a life threatening disease. These stories along with my community of family, friends, doctors and faith brought me through extraordinarily tough times. Thus, though it is my passion to inspire, it is my duty to share my story and to add to the many that have inspired and encouraged me in hopes that my story will also give hope to others in the fight.

I apologize to all that may have found inspiration in those words and I hope that the continuation of my story will serve as inspiration as well. For those who are unaware, in a nutshell, I have been battling cancer since my stage 4 diagnosis in 2010. I am still unaware of how long I had it while undetected. In 2011 I had a stem cell transplant and since then I've undergone numerous chemo treatments, an immunotherapy trial and in January of this year, I received a CarTcell Transplant. Who Is Choosing You?

I remember when I was told by my father that I would be lucky if I had five true friends in life. I was young. Twelve or thirteen, I was just old enough to think I knew it all but fortunately smart enough to listen and store the information. I trusted him and though the number of friends has exceeded his experience, I understand the sentiments. My dad went straight into the armed services at 18 where I took a more fluid and exotic path. One minute here and the next I'm there and thus I met more people who were attractive in mindset, character and of course, at times, physique. Over the years I've become quite the collector of great friends but ever more importantly those friends CHOSE ME. I have worked on myself since I can remember. Always checking in and trying to be a better person than I was the day before and thus making myself a more attractive candidate for friendship. The Art In Sharing

 Remember the phrase, sharing is caring. Juvenile? How many of us have gone through something so traumatic that only those who have had similar events take place could console our sadness, fear and or pain? I know I have and in my time of need, I turn to books written, pod cast, works or art in any form to not only console me but to show proof that there is a way. A way to heal and to get stronger once again. A way to thrive and not just survive. We share our journey because others can learn and benefit from it. Thus sharing is caring. I was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2010. Since then I've undergone extensive treatment including experimental treatments. Some of those treatments are now FDA approved.
